According to latest data published by EUIPO, 196,886 EUTM applications were filed in 2025, with a 9.1% increase compared to 2024. This growth was driven by applicants residing in EU Member States; Germany (12.7%), Italy (6.9%), and Spain (6.4%) were the most active countries.
Applications from China also continued to increase, with a 13.3% increase (equal to almost 16% of all EUTMs). They were followed by applications from the United States (9%) and the United Kingdom (4.2%).
Italy remains one of the top players in intellectual property in Europe. However, the growth in applications from China underscores the need for European companies to secure their IP rights. International competition no longer concerns only price, but also legal ownership of innovation and design within the Union.
